5 April, Medini City, Iskandar Puteri: Iskandar Puteri’s green ecosystem was further enhanced when the bicycle-sharing system, oBike was launched at the recent inaugural Edible Festival that drew about 6,000 visitors on 3 March 2018.

Supplementing the festival’s sustainability and green-themed programme, the launch of oBike took place at a perfect time. Presently, there are more than 1,000 oBike-branded bicycles placed at various locations within Iskandar Puteri, particularly in Medini City, EduCity, Puteri Harbour and other parts of Johor Bahru.

The launch was graced by the Mayor of Iskandar Puteri, Tuan Haji Adib Azhari bin Daud. Accompanying the Mayor of Iskandar Puteri at the launch were Ian Goh, oBike Malaysia Country Lead; Akmal Ahmad, Chief Operating Officer of Iskandar Investment Berhad (IIB) and Dr. James Tee, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Medini Iskandar Malaysia Sdn Bhd (MIM).

Ian Goh said, “oBike, Malaysia’s first smart station-free bike-sharing operator uses technology to change how transportation is viewed locally. This enables commuters to cycle from point to point at their first and last mile commute journey, via these bikes available all over the country. Nowadays people look for convenience and oBike is able to provide that. We are extremely happy to mark our presence in Iskandar Puteri and in Johor Bahru because we provide environmentally friendly commute option for all and this is surely a healthier and greener choice of transportation.”

Dr. James Tee said, “MIM is passionate about building a green ecosystem in Medini City, and we are delighted to partner with oBike as they share the same green and sustainability values as we do. Together, we will encourage our community to be more environmentally conscious and healthy too.

With minimal impact on the environment, green transport is part of sustainable living that contributes to making this ecosystem a success. One of the green initiatives that was launched by MIM last year was the 22-km cycling path that stretched from north to south of Medini City. “

“Currently, the oBikes in EduCity provide a simple and hassle-free alternative mode of transportation to more than 4,000 students,” said Akmal. Further, he added, “As there are dedicated cycling lanes in EduCity, Puteri Harbour, and Medini, a healthy cycling culture can be cultivated around these areas. The presence of oBike in Iskandar Puteri has enabled us to be one step closer towards achieving goals outlined in the Low Carbon Society Blueprint for Iskandar Malaysia 2025.”

“Building a green ecosystem is part of UEM Sunrise’s long-term efforts in promoting healthy living for the communities, as mapped in the blueprint of Iskandar Puteri. A green ecosystem and other sustainability initiatives are key markers of the quality of life in many cities. As an iteration of our continuous commitment to the development of our communities, we are very pleased to support this station-free bicycle-sharing system that oBike brings to Iskandar Puteri. This initiative further enhances the quality of life of communities living in Iskandar Puteri. We will continue to explore and introduce other similar programmes as upkeeping the well-being of our communities are of utmost importance,” said Anwar Syahrin Abdul Ajib, Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of UEM Sunrise Berhad.
